Challenges: Proinfratek was involved in multiple contracts for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) East Side Access project. The main challenge was to deliver communication systems for the new LIRR terminal, which included backbone communication systems, distribution networks, CCTV, Access ID, IP speaker, telephony, public addressing, and VMS. The team had to coordinate with multiple vendors and subcontractors, as well as the General Engineering Consultant and MTACC/LIRR, to ensure seamless communication interfaces and find new requirements.

Solution: Proinfratek provided system design, coordination, installation, configuration, and testing services for the various communication systems. For the ESA Backbone Communication System, they extended the existing Long Island Railroad communication network to transport data, voice, video, and other application data critical to public transportation systems. They also designed, configured, and installed the ESA PBX telephone system using the Unify OpenScape system, with more than 2400 VoIP and analogue phones deployed across the Tunnel and Grand Central Terminal.

Results: Proinfratek successfully completed all three contracts for the MTA East Side Access project, delivering high-quality communication systems that improved the passenger experience and ensured seamless communication interfaces for the various systems. They also provided training to LIRR personnel to ensure smooth operations, maintenance, and support of the communication systems. The project has reduced or eliminated the need for subway transfers for many riders with jobs on the east side of Manhattan, improving accessibility and reducing congestion at Penn Station.
